Research

Faculty and scientists at UWM's School of Freshwater Sciences (SFS) conduct internationally recognized research on a wide range of topics related to freshwater. They carry out their work at sea, in the field, and in the lab at locations ranging from the Great Lakes of North America to the Great Lakes of Africa.
SFS's research program is built upon a tradition of freshwater studies at UWM that began in 1966 with the Center for Great Lakes Studies and continued with the Great Lakes WATER Institute, which has been operating since 1973.
