Research Specialist
UWM Great Lakes WATER Institute
Position: Research Specialist
Appointment: Academic Staff, Fixed Term Appointment, 100% time
Anticipated Starting Date: July, 2008
Dr. Frederick Goetz, a research scientist at the UWM Great Lakes WATER Institute, is seeking an Associate Research Specialist to work in the aquaculture facility on the rearing and holding of various fish species.
Responsibilities Include:
1. maintaining, filling and calibrating automatic fish feeders
2. cleaning and siphoning fish tanks
3. maintaining and recording tank water temperatures
4. performing routine water chemistry analysis
5. participating in biweekly length/weight analyses of fish performance trials
6. participating in assaying fish for tissue collection, proximate composition analysis and other parameters
7. participating in spawning of broodstocks and rearing of larval fish
8. plumb tanks and construct water supplies and drains to and from tanks and larval rearing facilities
9. supervision of student hourly help
Qualifications:
A Bachelors degree in science with at least one year of experience in fish husbandry. Employee must be detail-oriented, punctual and have good record keeping abilities. In addition, they must be able to work independently and have good problem solving abilities.
Terms of employment:
The Research Specialist position is a 12-month, 100% fixed term Academic Staff appointment. This position may be renewable on an annual basis. The salary range will be $29,948-$32,000 annually, with excellent fringe benefits.
