Kinnickinnic River Project Overview

The Klaper Lab at the Great Lakes WATER Institute (GLWI) and the Sixteenth Street Community Health Center (SSCHC) along with a grant from Wisconsin Coastal Management are collaborating to develop an action plan to raise awareness of the KK River.

Project Goals:

• To raise awareness of the river as a community resource. 
• To engage residents and encourage activities around the river corridor.
• To encourage restoration efforts to bring the river back to the community. 

Why did GLWI and SSCHC become involved?

The lower stretches of the Kinnickinnic River and its riparian corridor run through the eastern and southern portions of the Sixteenth Street Community Health Center (SSCHC) service delivery area. 

Great Lakes WATER Institute (GLWI) is a UW-Milwaukee research institute where scientists study various aspects of the Great Lakes, in particular those of Lake Michigan basin.  In addition, GLWI is located adjacent to the Kinnickinnic River and therefore the watershed holds a particular interest for the WATER Institute.
